What is the AEE Association?
The AEE Association was established to provide professional support services that promote the advancement of quality values-based education in the independent schools’ sector across Africa.
It is a membership-based organisation that offers guidance on school management, administration and legal compliance policies and day-to-day consultation and support to schools on operational matters.
Its main objectives are:
- To promote and protect the independence of independent schools in Africa.
- To promote consultation, co-operation and relationships between independent schools, education authorities and community at large.
- To advise, represent and act on behalf of its members in matters of general interest for the advancement of education.
- To provide capacity-building programmes and empowerment through seminars, meetings, workshops and conferences on topical issues.
- To canvass/advocate for resources to advance teacher development.

Meet the AEE Association Team
Mandla Mthembu
Chief Operating Officer
Mandla Mthembu is an ordained Pastor and is currently the Chief Operations Officer (COO) at Accelerated Education Enterprises. AEE is a company that has a footprint in over 21 African Countries and Scandinavia as the custodian and distributor of the Accelerated Christian Education curriculum programme, amongst other products.
Mandla has approximately 34 years of experience in the field of education. Training and skills development in South Africa and abroad. He holds a MA degree in Education Policy and English Language Education from the University of Kent at Canterbury in the U.K and BA/Hons from the University of KwaZulu Natal S.A.
Buyi Majola
AEE Association Manager
Buyi Majola provides professional support and guidance to AEE Association member schools on several pertinent issues and queries that schools must deal with daily i.e., providing policy advice and guidance on compliance with legislation including the rights and responsibilities of independent schools.
She facilitates the utilisation of ETDPSETA Funding for Teacher Development and manages the Policy Wise Services.
Her career in education and skills development spans over many years. She is qualified in: Public Relation Practice; Customer Service Management; Skills Development Facilitation; Assessor and Moderator practice; Train the Trainer; and Teaching with Technology.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Exclusions fall into the two broad areas:
- Exclusion on grounds of contravention of the rules contained in the school’s Code of Conduct and/or Policies, e.g. extreme unruly behaviour that is in contravention of the code of conduct or school policy. Due disciplinary process including a hearing and finding must be followed.
- Exclusion on the grounds that the contract between the parents and the school has been broken, usually because the parents have failed to pay fees. Adequate warning through different forms of correspondence including offering a payment arrangement must be explored and only act upon failure of all these.
Yes. The National Curriculum Statements (NCS) for Grade R – 12 is the curriculum prescribed by the Department of Basic Education for all schools, both public and independent. However, independent schools are free to choose their own curricula and to organise teaching, learning and assessment in the school in any way they wish as long as the learners are able to achieve the minimum outcomes and standards prescribed in the NCS.
